The Heartlands
The Heartland is the last known bastion of humanity within the Mundane Realm.
Located in the rough center of the continent once known as North America, the Heartlands are bordered on all sides by mountain ranges both old and new; the vestiges of the Rocky Mountains to one side and the Appalachia to the other. These have been joined by a ring of new mountains and hillocks raised from the earth to provide a bulwark against the wild magic which encompasses the rest of the known world.
Many see the survival of this area as fitting, as it was within the American territories where the Inquisition—the organization which began and ended The Purge Wars—was first raised into prominence within modern society. Though the empires and kingdoms of that world fell alongside the planet itself, the Inquisition has remained at the core of the new world and it's so-called "Heartland."
It has taken much effort, and a great reformation of society, to make the Heartland a self-sustainable home for humanity until the rest of the planet can be reclaimed. This has involved relocating people, a major switch toward sustainable energy sources and farming practices, and green architecture. For minor examples, the production and use of steel and oil has been greatly reduced, while the use of solar and wind energies has increased. Many inner cities also have strict population control and rationing of stock goods.
