The Sundering of Aundariel

Alfier history as it is written, begins with what is consider to be the darkest chapter in their history; the demise of Aundariel and the collapse of Aelvar civilisation during the manifestation of the Cadence. To the immortal Aelvar, time was a foreign concept they were not burdened by, however in the aftermath of the events of the Cadence their entire civilisation would be plunged into ruin. The Aelvars songs of mourning for the loss of their great mother would quickly turn into cries of anguish and despair, as their strong natural connection to Elder Magic unravelled. This divine essence that once kept them eternal, immune from death and disease, made their bodies grow unstable, experiencing entropy for the very first time. The most ancient and venerable of their kind found their youth stripped away in mere moments, their bodies ailing to the weight of the countless lifetimes they had lived, becoming weak or infirm. As the eldest of their race began to perish in droves, it left behind the young and inexperienced of their people to take hold the reins of power as the crisis deepened.   During these turbulent decades of the first age, plagued by adversaries appearing from every direction and natural disasters, the Aelvar were powerless to manifest magic or weave the spells their people often relied upon to defend themselves and without the guidance of their elders the survivors fractured apart, becoming more and more desperate. As hopelessness set in many fled, abandoning their great cities and lands, taking flight back to their ancestral homeland of Lorthwyn in search of answers. Many frantically sought a solution to their plight from the magisters of the ivory tower, scrying the heavens and obsessing over the stars for answers, others turned to their faith, pleading to the remaining gods for salvation, finding the torment of this new found mortality too much to bear. Much of what happened during these dark days is lost to the annuals of time, typically this period of upheaval is believed to have lasted up-to a hundred years following the Cadence, however Aelfier oral traditions suggest it lasted much longer.
