Life
Born to a couple of Healers on the Northern Water Tribe island of Catori, Malik always had a connection to the spirits far stronger than the average Water Tribe citizen. Growing up, Malik created fond memories of playing in the snow with his brother Loffae and the other children of the island. When Malik reached his 16th birthday, he began his spiritual training on the island, under the guidance of Northern Elder Noey. His first year of training was rather relaxed, still going home each night to his family and enjoying the simple pleasures of living off the coast of the Northern Tribe. When Loffae reached age 16, he decided that he wanted to learn to master his waterbending, a gift that both he and Malik had been blessed with, so he left Catori to train in Agna Qel’a.
Loffae’s departure caused Malik to take his spiritual training more seriously, and Malik began to excel in his spiritual studies. In just a few years, after Malik had completed his Initiation into the Cultural Ministry, Water Chief Irelia heard of Malik’s dedication, and appointed Malik as the Northern Tuurngaq, or High Shaman of the Northern Water Tribe Cultural Ministry. Malik had little experience in a leadership position before this, but the job came naturally to him. During spiritual visits to the Spirit Oasis of Agna Qel’a under the Cultural Ministry, Malik would make sure to stop and visit Loffae, who was training in the city. The two may not have gotten to see each other often, but their bond was as strong as ever. During one of these visits, Malik learned that Loffae had made his way up in the ranks, and had been promoted to Northern Elder.
While the Northern Water Tribe Cultural Ministry was run well under Malik’s leadership, its southern counterpart was struggling, unable to retain a Tuurngaq for more than a few years. Realizing this issue, Water Chief Irelia decided to open up a new position within his Council of Elders, titled Anningan, which he gave to Malik. With this new title, Malik would now oversee both the Northern and Southern Water Tribe Cultural Ministries. Malik’s visits to the south were rather enjoyable, as he enjoyed getting the opportunity to visit new places and meet new people. Upon finding a new Southern Tuurngaq, Malik made his way back north to focus on the happenings of Catori, and learned that Irelia was stepping down as Chief, and appointed Loffae to be the new Water Chief. A few years into Loffae’s Chiefdom, Loffae grew tired of his position, and passed the Chiefdom over to Malik.
Under Malik, The Water Tribes continue to flourish, and Malik enjoys serving his Nation.
