Air Temple Island

Introduction

Air Temple Island is the only temple to be built after the 100-year war. It’s built on a small isle east of the shore of Republic City, the temple was built by Aang himself and was originally inhabited by his family members, flying bison, and ring-tailed lemurs. As the Island is in the center of all of the other temples, it acts as a sort of capital city for the Air Nomads.

Description

The temple is constructed of quartz brick walls and lapis-lazuli roofs, with gold trim lining the spires. It contains a meditation pavilion, a training area, a library, an indoor marketplace, a dining room, a greenhouse with a farm, and a large central tower with the grand ceremonial hall. The temple is often the first place that Novices and Initiates move into, but it is also home to many long-term members. Ceremonies for Watchers, Masters, Abbots, and Elders often take place here.

History

The temple was originally home to Avatar Aang and his family, but he would soon construct a full temple in hopes of bringing the spirit of the Air Nomads into the modern world. Soon after it’s instatement, the temple was severely damaged because of an emotional rampage that was caused by Lin Beifong, a descendent of Toph Beifong. During Korra’s era- the temple went under extenuous stress, it was attacked by the Equalists and the Red Lotus. In more recent years, fall equinox festivals and events have been held, to celebrate Air Nomads and our culture. Unfortunately, missing sky bison reports around the temple caused fear among members. The URN and Council of Elders met to discuss the missing bison, and formulate an agreement to work towards solving the mystery. Fortunately, in the end all was well and the illegal bison shops were shut down.
