Episode 54: When Song Fills the Air, Sailors Beware

General Summary

With but a day to either port at Astraeus Reach or Falls, the Falcon happens to pass a landmark on the map and begin to hear a song on the air. While many on the ship were charmed at the start, those who were able to fight off the song began to fight off the party of harpies that dove to attack those on the ship.   While the group were unable to keep their friends from treading onto a dangerous part of the ship, Solanos and Jolly were forced to utilize Fireball and Shatter, respectively-- in order for the others to land killing blows onto the harpies that had nearly killed and carried off Sarku, Rainbow, and Devona. Interestingly enough, the group was witness to both men's magical abilities watching as Solanos was able to overchannel his magic and shape the fire around the others while an invisible Jolly shattered a group that were clawing into Devona. However, as a result of the magical onsalught, the ship was in bad shape and needed to be repaired at the next port which Solanos left to the others decide as night fell.   They could see the options in the distance, what looked to be a busier coastal city and what looked to be an island port town with what seemed to be lanterns floating up into the sky. After consulting with the captain and talking amongst themselves, the party decides to make port as Astraeus Falls, a smaller locale and the closest of the two.   Arriving in the early morning, the party disembarked with Tetran taking the half-orc girl with them and acting as her escort and guard. As she has no other clothes, Tetran unpacked to give her a new wardrobe pulling out some female clothes-- which Reylan thought strange. As they headed out, the first thing they came across was a bakery and it was there that the group was witness to a child discovering sweets and chocolate for the first time. The party bought most of the woman's pastries for the day (buying most for the crew) before deciding on breakfast for the day.   As they passed through the town gate, they are met by an official who introduces himself as Sheriff Kam- a half-orc possibly half-aasimar who requests that the group don't cause any trouble. Traveling up to the town proper, the group observed farmland being tended to by orcs and some higher elevated areas as well as a large mountain that seemed to dominate most of the northern part of the island. After some suggestions from a passerby, the group stop by the Firefalls Grill hearing of its good selection of meat and food-- and for the first time in a long time, the young orc girl confesses that she's never ate so well before falling asleep with Tetran attending to her care.   As the group discussed their plans for the day, Vasya and Tetran suggested that the group be more cautious noticing that the population of the town has a significant amount of orc and half-orcs than other places in Barisea. Though those they met were amicable, the two were wary thinking that either the girl or her captors may have either come from the island. While sharing their caution, Reylan does not quite believe that either is the case though she does keep an eye out for anyone looking at them in a particular way or specifically at the girl.   Realizing that they have nothing to do but enjoy the island for the next few days, the group decided to head to the marketplace and learn more of the place as well as look into any problems that the island could be having. While Vasya met an talkative and imaginative lantern maker, Tetran came across an intriguing tiefling merchant named Paradas, who suggested to Tetran to help a good man by the name of Cedric in the mines promising to open a discussion into blood magic as the former had shown some interest.   After regrouping and heading to city hall to see what else there could be to do in the town, they took note of a forge off in the distance and approached the place. While Reylan and Valentine were unable to learn the secrets of runesmithing without becoming guild members, the weapons master did answer questions that Reylan had about the blade.   After tasting the metal of the blade, the master revealed three things: the blade was old and reeked of divine magic, the blade was a twin and had either a brother or sister blade out in the world as they were forged at the same time and through magical means, and that the blade could be  one the "God-touched"-- a weapon that was blessed by a god/goddess.
