Episode 79: The Seventh Day

Previously...

After taking on a mission to pre-empt a divined attack on a town south of Kingsfall, the Wayfinders, the Fatherless Sons, and the Thunderbeaks found themselves not only attacked by an empowered Rasa force but betrayed by almost all of the Thunderbeaks. After a grueling battle, the group is able to overcome both traitors and Rasa alike but are unable to determine much from the else other than it was a trap meant to leave the city vulnerable and send a message to scare off adventurers.

General Summary

After taking their time either visiting allies or catching up on skills and spells, the seventh day arrived for Kingsfall and the Wayfinders found themselves awaiting the threat of the Rasa general as did the rest of the city. While some citizens both in the outer towns and the city were evacuated to safety in other realms, there were still those who either could not leave and those who chose to stay. Adventurers milled about the streets amongst soldiers and Grollo assured the group that those who had been having strange visions were isolated and being observed.   As hours passed on and on, after a titan-sized threat was neutralized by the city's defenses, it was found that the outer towns were not as lucky with militia being deployed to assist the homes and villages on fire. Still, the Wayfinders and their allies stayed within the city.   As another hour passed, it was only at three in the morning that the horns blew and the bells rang with a crier bolting down the street warning of something approaching the north walls. Reylan and Nyx, taking Tetran with them, and Plum on his flying broom flew up overhead to patrol, eyeing an undead master on an equally undead spinosaurus mount.   Investigating strange happenings on the ground level, the remaining Wayfinders discovered an arcane circle with runes disappearing one by one. Suspecting foul play, Vasya drew her sword and struck down on the circle in an attempt to break it as they'd done with other rifts. However, instead of destroying it, Vasya and her pack, Gideon, Valentine, and a young squire found themselves teleported into the forests outside of the city right next to a sleeping spinosaurus and a tent off in the distance from where chanting was coming from.   Having spotted the group and then the circle activating, the skyborne Wayfinders landed with only Tetran being able to successfully determine how to return the others. Though a Sending spell was communicated to the other group, they realized that in order to possibly help the city, they should kill whatever shaman lay hidden in the tent after seeing what they had done in market square last time. In a surprise attack that ended up being rather successful, the group was able to strike down both the shaman and the spinosaurs before Nyx flew in and Tetran was able to pull them all back.   While most of the returned group were hurt badly, they were able to get another half-hour or so of rest before they heard screams coming from the district's main center. While news of the spinosaurs beginning to go mad was a blessing, the group were not able to count that for long before Vasya distracted a sathaq worm into attacking the lot of them instead of the city. Though it nearly killed a couple of the group, everyone was able to land the right type of damage with Tetran being able to snipe it after gaining some distance to recover from nearly being felled.

Session Wrap Up

After the massive sathaq worm falls to the ground lifeless and back into one of the massive burrowed holes it created, you find yourselves at a sudden calm in the storm as the battle rages on around you. The distant sound of spell and sword is muffled and as the night progresses, you all continue to press on with aiding as the battle continues.   You learn and find that the walls are under seige from large beasts and swarms of hundreds of Rasa. While many leap or jump upon the walls, they do so only to be felled by steel or arcane traps. After another hour, in the northern district of the Phoenix, the main gate is splintered by the large force attacking the same ones that were seen from the sky-- the one where an undead master rode a spinosaurus and was leading a pack. Against that magic, the walls seemed to become brittle and cracked as a massive earthquake shook the city. When the gate broke open, the Rasa poured into the city but were met by a wall of bolts and fire that were well prepared filling the inner bailey with bodies and fires as the fight raged on. Up above, the large form of a silver dragon could be seen dueling in the sky with what seems to be a flying specter in flashes of lighting.   As the hours grow longer, many wounded are brought back from the lines, but the city seems to hold this assault as the seeming endless number of Rasa continue to be halted. While the outer gate was broken, the inner gate of the northern district seems to stand.   News of invaders below reports that under the city, massive tunnels are found from burrowing creatures who brought troops to emerge under points of of district walls to weaken the defense. However, it seems these efforts were halted as the sun began to rise.   A bellowing roar is let out from a dragon high above the city as it descends, its skin blackened by its shoulder and one of its eyes missing, a massive head of a spinosaurus in its claws. As the morning bell rings, thoughts of the battle fade as a gate opens in the city's center with a number of people beginning to be let out of the Kings district.   A clear sounding bell with a sound magical by nature brings word of a clandestine attack meant to kill the leaders of the city it seems. As soldiers and adventurers look to each other for news, only some of it seems to be passed on. The large electrical titan it seems overloaded the arcane runes and defenses causing a number of the city's defenses to activate such as the arcane transport runes meant to be used as a safe exit from the city. Instead, diviners and spymasters determined that these transport circles were meant to be used to sneak assassins into the city to infiltrate the Kings District while the rest of the city fought. Yet, while this news spread, portals have begun to open as traders anxious for the new day begin to move into the city .
