Kharona, the City of Moonlight

Bordering the western side of the Dragon Spine range, the small city of Kharona has the benefit of being located next to the cave entrances that once led into the dwarven Kingdom of Baedror. Abandoned after a horrific scare within the mines during the years of the High Mageocracy, the opening of elemental rifts, as well as the prophecy of doom that hung over their heads, the original residents of the Kingdom of Baedror abonded the great mountain halls but its hallways weren't collapsed up as they found they could not abandon all hope completely. Unable to destroy the entrances to their kingdom entirely and one day wishing to return, they set forth to settle in a nearby haven gathering the knowledge in hopes of returning.

A Crystal Clear Discovery

While the paths by the cave entrances looked eerie at times, they had become a welcome and familiar sight to those traveling out of the Dragon's Spine and those working around the border patrols. However, while many walked past the caves finding wonder in being so close to a place of myth and legend, they noticed that there were crystals that had begun to grow on the inside, giving them a soft glow especially at night.   At first, there were many that were nervous and anxious about the crystals believing that they could hold malevolent energies from the long abandoned kingdom but some researchers dared to enter. After the first few people found no dark energies and suffered no ill side effects, they expanded their exploration efforts and called their entry points the Lunara Delves named after the rocks that seemed to glow at night and emanated from the caves like moonlight.

Mining

Several years after they discovered that the minerals were harmless and harbored no dark traces of magic and enough research into their possible usage was found, the delves were opened up to miners who got to work on stripping the crystals. Stopped in expansion by limited space and the will to journey forward, the mine workers recovered some crystals that even the initial researchers hadn't gathered.   When it was discovered that the new crystals could be used in a variety of different ways, it became obvious to many that they were eventually going to run out of things to mine. Rationing their work so as to not run out too soon and being careful about preserving the dwarven work, even leaving some crystals untouched because of how far it had spread, it was a sad day when they decided to clean up and end the mining efforts.   However, to everyone's surprise and in a few months time, the crystals had grown back in full, there to be an endless supply of crystal.

Traders and Suppliers

Realizing how useful the crystals were to the city as well as to other small, trade heavy towns, the people of Kharona began to distribute what was gathered in order for trade to increase and the trade towns to garner some more income.   The city itelf became known for innovating and researching what to create with any crystals that were left with a research facility and campus being established shortly after the mines reopened with a strategized scheudle for work. The new buildings were devoted to the crystals and became the first new academic establishment in the region since the days of the Higher Mageocracy.
