Articles of Law of the Freehold of Valyria

The laws established and enforced by the Council of Freemen of Valyria and all persons within her empire will keep these laws as they are written.

Lords may enforce the laws of Valyria over their own lands.

Upon our Heads

  • Death begets death.
  • A Valyrian found to be engaging in parental incest will be banished.
  • Dragonriders found to have procreated with one Not of the Blood will be disgraced and summarily unbound from their dragon, lands relinquished to their family and the other party, Not of the Blood and any offspring from the union, will be put to fire.
  • Dreadfully deformed offspring must be quickly euthanized.
  • If a man sleeps with another man's daughter, the father of the daughter can put him to fire.
  • Suicide must be approved by the council.
  • Theft of a dragon egg is punishable by death.
  • A person who is not a dragonrider and found to be wearing the colour gold will be stripped and receive fifty lashes.
  • All prostitutes must be dark of hair.

The Arch Mage Decrees

  • No non-Valyrian unsanctioned magic. Magic users can be taken into custody of the Inaugrion.
  • Any non-Valyrian magic user, found practicing magic in Valyria without the blessing of the Arch Mage will be subject to detainment.
  • Valyrian offspring found to have magic abilities are surrendered to the Brotherhood of Mages. If a member of the Brotherhood has children, they are surrendered to the highest ranking or Valyrian family.

Laws of Inheritance

  • Male-preference primogeniture and in dragonlord families, the heir is always a dragon rider.

Taxes

Within the Freehold taxes are collected and managed by the Council, accruing funds into the Central Treasury for the use of the Council at its discretion. (Such as for infrastructure and emergency needs.)
The rate is a tithe and council appointed auditors visit each family and examine their records before the election of the Archons is taken. This will serve two purposes, first, establish how much each family is paying toward the upkeep and sustenance of Valyria and secondly, give the council insight into how much wealth and power each family has accrued in the previous year.

Slavery

  • If a slave murders a master, all the slaves in the family are killed.

"Freedman" - rules

  • Can conduct business within the Valyrian empire.
  • Freed slaves are not citizens.
