Major language groups and dialects

Most of the gorets people speak Galavnayan and Trading Common.

Shared customary codes and values

While the gorets themselves don't have a caste system, they are very conscious of the social structures of others. They study and follow social norms in other countries almost obsessively and always behave carefully within those norms, especially where romantic or physical relationships are concerned.

Common Etiquette rules

The gorets people greet each other with warm, vocal greetings and exuberant waves at a distance. They prefer nearly twice the expected personal space in Chereladi and speak more loudly to be heard at that distance. Privacy is less expected and it is common to have most of a neighborhood listening in when conversing in public. Physical contact is not made during common greetings unless the people are very close friends or relatives.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Gorets people are known for being taller and more muscular than the average Chereladian. They prize this kind of physicality among their own people, considering a woman who can lift heavy barrels while still carrying a child or two among the peak of beauty. Men who can lift and carry heavy logs or control strong, wild animals are also considered very attractive. Their features tend toward rough and rugged by Chereladian standards, but they also view the finer features of Chereladians as somewhat weak and wimpy.

Gender Ideals

Men are physically strong and very family-oriented, preferring to spend time with wife, children and a limited circle of extended family rather than socializing outside of the home. Some families form teams for socialized sporting events like log rolling, ice hockey, and curling.   Women are also very family-oriented and usually can keep pace with their men in physical contests. To have ones wife beat one in a sporting event is evidence that the man's chosen well and maybe the woman could have chosen someone stronger. Both men and women are very active outdoors and prefer to be physically engaged in hiking, hunting, running, skating, swimming or other outdoor sports.

Courtship Ideals

Gorets expect to marry within their own people, frequently marrying someone they have known since childhood. Marrying outside their society causes an excessive amount of self-doubt and social stress which drives many gorets expatriates to return home to the Snow Barrens when they begin considering settling down.

Relationship Ideals

Marriages are usually between two people and last until the death of both parties. Multiple marriages are extremely rare. Marriage after a spouse has died is usually considered disloyal to the memory of the marriage and insulting to the children of the first spouse.
