The Man of Black Fire, and his Meadow Myth in Wasteland Of Ohm | World Anvil

The Man of Black Fire, and his Meadow

Farming 101 from a God.

While many of the early Awoken had to learn their farming techniques with grit under their claws, the ancestors of the Plains Tender's claim to have learned it all from a being of great power and black fire. Some having even found a religion from the experience long ago in the Amber Broadleaf Thicket.

Summary

Long ago, before the word had been put to the tablet. The Awoken lived as the animals do. Struggling to truly survive, and driven to near extinction. They held one another and looked to the sky. Purple mist filled the air one night as their world became light and warm. They found themselves in what seemed to be an endless green meadow. Berry bushes sprouted from amber nodules in the ground, and fruit grew upon every tree.   Once they had filled their bellies, a figure began to materialize. This man of black flame and white of eye scolded them for taking his fruit. That they would have to give, what they had taken. They told the man that they did not know how to make the land ripe. So he thought them, teaching them the way of soil, seed, and hoe. He told them that he would not save them if they could not learn to truly conquer the land. However if they did, he may one day return and tell them all he knew. For what he taught was only the beginning.   These Awoken left the man of black fire. Eyes wide and curious of what the world could possibly hold. They tilled and made the land their own. Bringing forth an age of prosperity.

Historical Basis

While many strange, mystical things have happened on Minerva, many doubt the efficacy of this story. While others eagerly await the return of the Man. If it actually occurred or not is a serious point of debate among many Awoken. However, it can't be denied that the Plains Tender's got their interest and extremely deep understanding of botany from some unknown source. The points of debate often are of what that source truly was.
