Becoming Technology / Science in Visa | World Anvil

Becoming

An individual's Becoming is the process by which they become Vis. Using both advanced surgical techniques as well as specialized medications and electrical stimulation, gender is eliminated as well as impulsive emotions.   Before Becoming, an individual is sad, isolated, and irrational. They do not understand their reason for existence or their connection to and place within the cosmos. Anger, fear, pride, hatred, love, jealousy, sadness, paranoia, and loyalty rule their decisions and therefore their lives.   After Becoming, the Vis realize they are part of a larger whole and through that sense of belonging and perspective, they reach a state of harmony with both their past and the future. This creates a pleasant, safe, and reliable world full of caring individuals who are all concerned about each other as well as the community as a whole.   Part of the process includes forming a connection to minds who have previously worked in thier profession, allowing projects to be continued without serious interruption for centuries. The Origin itself could not have been built without Becoming, and the starship project was the primary reason Becoming was engineered by the Vu.   The Vis were able to become a highly advanced race because of the technological advancement enabled by incredibly lengthy longitudinal studies and experimentation. Without Becoming, there are no Vis. This ceremony is their identifying and unifying factor.   "There were no Vis before Becoming and there was no Becoming before the Vis."

Utility

This allows scientific experimentation and projects such as building megastructures to span centuries with the same general vision and priorties in leadership.
Inventor(s)
The Primary Engineer developed the process of Becoming. (This may or may not be true, but it is believed by all.)
Access & Availability
All of the Vis have had a Becoming. It is what makes an individual Vis.
Complexity
This is an incredibly advanced process that is extremely complex in terms of medicine (in surgery, procedures, and medication).
