Blood Heritage Document

Often given to the subject as a paper copy and stored digitally by the country's Heritage health organisation, a Heritage form is a legal requirement in most countries, declaring the species and Heritage of an individual. Most secondary schools require students to have Heritage tests completed before their entrance into the school, though the schools in question do not have access to- or the right to demand access to- the Heritage documents.   Aside from being inaccurate until a person's magical core settles, a major flaw in the document is that the tests involved in their creation often do not work on Fae before they have Awakened or after they have learnt to dampen their magic. This presents a problem for Changelings, who cannot be accurately tested and thus cannot have an accurate Heritage form until they are around 18-25 years old.

Purpose

A legal document that provides proof of a person's blood Heritage - i.e. which species they are descended from, what magic they may have, and any medical or behavioural issues they may experience as a result.

Document Structure

Clauses

General information includes the name, date of birth and age of the subject of the Heritage document. The results section presents both the subject's DNA in terms of species and the subject's innate magical core, given in table and chart form. For Humans, they will still test as having a magical core, as all living things do to an extent, however, most Humans are unable to access theirs.

Publication Status

The document is not freely available to anyone who asks. Though the subject of the document can show anyone they wish, these documents are normally kept classified, with blood Heritage being a protected characteristic. The only part of the document freely available to the general public is the Dominant Species results, which declare what species a person is, the result always printed on public ID. Medical professionals can also request information from the document which may be relevant to diagnosing and treating their patient.   Although the results can be inaccurate for children under the age of 10, particularly newborns, and Heritage tests often remain inaccurate until an individual's magical core settles around the age of 11-21, adoption agencies and orphanages commonly make it a requirement for children to have a Heritage document before they can be put up for adoption. The results are typically kept confidential, but the guardians of the children, along with any prospective parents, have the legal right to know the results, especially when they pertain to potential health or behavioural issues the child may have.
