In the Republic of Muhepásin , there has been persistent unrest for many years. As a response to this, and the perceived threat it poses, the Muhepásines Presidential Guard was formed to protect the President and other higher ranking members of the parliament and cabinet.

Composition

The majority of those in the Guard are there to stand between the President and danger, and thus are highly trained physical and magical fighters. However, there are some members of the guard whose duty is in scouting and information, ensuring it will be safe for the President to enter an area at all. These individuals may be trained fighters, but are more likely to be trained in diplomacy and remaining unseen, so as to get the best information from a given environment.

History and Role

Though the official "Muhepásines Presidential Guard" is a recent institution, only being formed in the year 6 Return, informal groups fulfilling the same role have existed as long as the republic has, and similar groups during the country's time as a kingdom. It was formed after the assassination of President Ffoshuám, with the initial purpose of finding and apprehending the president's assassins, and later with protecting her successor.   The group has not been an uncontroversial addition to government, seen as a completely disproportionate response to an uncommon incident. The Guard numbers in the 30s, and the majority of these will be present anywhere the President goes, and it is not unheard of for the Guard to be aggressive towards those in the area regardless of innocence.

Success

Since the foundation of the Guard, no President has been assassinated in Muhepásin. While most would deem this to be a successful record, the Guard itself disagrees, citing the many close calls in which they were unable to completely protect their charge. In particular, the injuries that President Oweset suffered in 25 Return, which later forced his premature resignation, are a sore spot for the Guard.   These many small failings have led some to ask if the Guard is worth having, and if it may be more worthwhile to spend that money on fixing the inequalities that have sparked the unrest in the west. Despite their self-criticism, the Muhepásines Presidential Guard finds such suggestions utterly absurd.
