BioThaumic Algamation Wand

Discovery

The BTAW, or as some surgeons have begun to refer to it: "The Meat Zipper" was first discovered by the surgical wizard and artificer Melanie MacLeod. Aware of the use of targeted healing spells to encourage torn flesh to mend and regrow, Melanie set about enchanting a highly focused healing spell onto a wand to allow more precise healing- to bind the fibers of a muscle without fusing the flesh and obstructing your view of the wound. This allowed for new, revolutionary treatments such as organ transplants or grafts without the necessity of 7th level spells.

Availability

This precision instrument has made it's rounds through the medical community; making appearances at high end hospitals across the world. Despite the simple nature of it's conception, due to the delicacy and intricacy of it's construction, it requires specialized skills to construct- as such, the primary source of new tools is via commissioning the original artificer. Therefore, while it is made freely available for purchase, it's spread and adoption has been limited by distance and affordability.

Complexity

To replicate this device requires a tradition of spell crafting and artifice with enough experience to cast fourth level spells, a precision ritual space, and a 200 gp rod of feywood tipped with a diamond worth 800 gp. Inscribing the enchantment and constructing the device takes about 3 weeks of work for a single spellcaster.

Utility

The BTAW's primary functions include:
  • Precision Healing
  • Precision Necrotherapy
  • Organic Fusing
These features allowed it to be used to treat a variety of injuries to complex for a simple healing spell- malignant growths and parasites can be killed without extensive damaging of flesh, transplanted organs and limbs can be encouraged to attach to foreign flesh, and severe injuries can be treated piecemeal without risking broken bones or other injuries healing improperly.
