Your Honor Giles Wynne

You brought me here as a matter of law. It is in this capacity that I must make my decision, and decide I have. I have spoken with you both, and with your neighbors, the town elders, and everyone else who had an opinion on the matter - and it certainly seemed that everyone had an opinion. I've also investigated myself, and what I found was enlightening.

Mr. Cotte - you are a bad person, and I think you know this. You have been cruel to people that have shown you kindness, you have taken advantage of your community while never showing a bit of charity yourself, and you are the most unpleasant person I have ever met.

This contract is incredibly one-sided, but I see no evidence that it was agreed to under duress, or that Mr. Dreward was not given ample opportunity to seek advice on the matter. Were you in Uborum , the contract would be void, but we are not in Uborum, and the contract is valid. I grant you rights to the mine, effective immediately. That fulfills the contract, and all requests for penalties are denied.

On a personal note, I expect that you are going to find workers hard to come by in this town - good luck with the continued operations.

Education

Apprenticed to the Courts of Bonae at 12. Studied under a number of judges, eventually working as a clerk for the Tribunal. Graduated and became a circuit judge.

Employment

After clerking for the Tribunal, it was expected that he would move up quickly through the ranks, likely to be on the Tribunal himself one day. But after the Cotte trial, he decided that his purpose, laid down by Bonae, was to continue to act as circuit judge. Although he is often offered higher appointments, he always turns them down, citing his duty to Bonae.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Following the letter of the law, which came to the inescapable conclusion that Cotte owned the mine in full, yet allowing the process itself to lead to further justice, changed Wynne. He considered leaving for Adalci, but after meditation, he realized that an Adalci judge would have shattered the law, and things would have been worse. He has been dedicated to finding similar solutions.

Since then, he has followed his personal judicial philosophy of justice through creative adherence to the law. His crowning achievement to date was when he was called on to adjudicate a land dispute in Corellum. A newly appointed Baronet was attempting to claim the land worked by free yeoman for centuries. The law backed the Baronet's ability to do so, until Wynne found a decree from the first King of Corellum, establishing that a lord could not take the property of their yeoman, and the attempt would be punished by doubling the amount of property in question. This was actually in reference to the first Prince of Corellum stealing the toys of the servants (called yeomen at the time) and having to give them back and some of his toys as punishment, but since the decree had never been overturned he used it as the basis of his decision stripping most of the Baronet's land away and giving it to a council of the yeoman for dispersal. The Church of Bonae backed him, and the King had no desire for a holy war, so the decision stood. The perception of the church simply being a rubber stamp for the whims of the nobility was radically altered, and elevated their standing as the story spread across Helion.
