Sun

The Sun, as we all know, is the source of heat and light for the world. For those with The Talent, however, the Sun is the source of magic.

Natural Resources

Besides heat, light, and various types of radiation, the Sun also emits an unidentified energy that fuels the use of magic on Earth.   Talented scientists do not entirely understand how this works, and mages throughout history have suggested various theories to explain the link between the sun's energy and magic. The currently accepted theory is that the Sun emits magical energy the same way it emits infrared and light. Magical scientists called this energy M-radiation or M-rays. Those with The Talent, however, can feel the magical energy in the rays of the Sun, even when clouds or other terrestrial phenomena (such as pollution or volcanic eruptions) obscure the Sun itself. In this way, M-rays behave like ultraviolet radiation and heat. It is important to note that no one has yet found a way to measure or quantify M-rays.   The use of magic is not, however, confined to the day. As the Earth absorbs heat from the sun which it gives off at night, so too does the Earth absorb M-rays. Magical scientists believe that the Earth converts the Sun's M-radiation into its fabric much the same way that plants absorb solar energy and convert it to food which the plants then store. The Earth's land and oceans contains thousands of years of stored M-rays. Mages with The Talent can access the stored M-rays at any time of the day or night, and no one has been able to confirm a qualitative difference between solar M-rays and those stored in the Earth.
