Mechanics & Inner Workings

A knife is a tool that can be used to wound others, but more commonly is used to write, etch, and carve. Bears, wolves, coyotes, bobcats, and cougars use knives to write on various surfaces such as dirt, tree bark, tree trunks, or bones. Such writings are often used for ritualistic purposes.

Hooved animals do not use knives as they cannot hold them with their hooves. Some raccoons have tried creating knives better suited to be held in a herbivore's mouth, but it is impractical and the herbivores aren't interested.
