Atom's Holy Cathedral

The Green Glow of Atom has shined upon Chicago and the Great Lakes Wastelands. During The Great War, two nuclear missiles crashed through a cathedral located in downtown Chicago. However, the Cathedral was unfortunate and did not return to Atom during The Great Divide. The Children of Atom knew that this was message from their lord. Atom had decreed the landing site of the missiles as the holy grounds for his children. The Children of Atom are in the ruins of Chicago, and they are here to spread His gospel. 

Purpose / Function

Atom's Holy Cathedral has two nuclear missiles hidden in the cathedral's crypts. The glow of radiation has irradiated the grounds and has blessed it as a sacred site for the Children of Atom. Aside from weaponry and gamma weapons,  Atom's Holy Cathedral houses one other holy relic - The Glowing Holy Water. To the uninitiated, the Glowing Holy Water is radioactive water housed in the cathedrals fountain. However, through these waters, one can be baptized and be fully embraced by Atom himself. 
Although wastelanders see the ritual as barbaric, the practical effects of being baptized in Glowing Holy Water is undeniable. When one is submerged, diseases are completely stripped from the plagued. Although the healed will feel a level of fatigue and mild pain, once the pain subsides, the healed will gain Atom's Gift - a permanent immunity from radiation sickness. It is also foretold that the a messiah will be rise from the Glowing Holy Water with the power of to divide life with a simple touch of their hand.

Alterations

The entrance to the cathedral's crypts has been blocked off by High Confessor Gordon's throne. Since the crypts house two nuclear missiles, guards are found patrolling the underground labyrinth.

History

During The Great War, two nuclear missiles crashed through the former Holy Name Cathedral. Unlike other weapons during the war, these two missiles did not detonate - leaving most of downtown Chicago unharmed. However, the grounds it landed became irradiated. 100 years after the war, The Children of Atom began to spread their gospel through the Great Lakes Wastelands. Their ultimate goal was to find a place to call home. A place to congregate. Holy Name Cathedral was the site of two nuclear missiles. A holy site made holy by Atom. This was the only interpretation the Children of Atom could see. Even more so, The Glowing Holy Water made it more clear that Atom was protecting his followers and bestowing them a slice of his divine power. The Children of Atom are ruled by High Confessor Gordon - a true devout follower - and he believes that it is Atom's will to spread the Glowing Holy Water through Chicago. After all, the world is in need of healing.
