kin

These are the people of Netherport. They are the Demons, Devils, and other creatures that formerly dwelt in the lower planes. But in coming to the Free City, they have all had an opportunity to re-forge themselves into something different than what they were destined for. The vast majority of Kin prefer to stay in Netherport, where they can be protected from the judgment and fear of the other Citizens from more conventional planes. As many of them left their origin planes to avoid violence and conflict, this helps them to also avoid accidental confrontations with other Citizens who don't believe that they are now Kin, and no longer members of a darker, more violent race.    Not all lower-plane creatures consider themselves Kin. Some do reach the Free City, and are completely uninterested in changing anything about their ideals or actions. Kin who leave Netherport are also constantly in danger of being mistaken for one of these more violent citizens. Those Demons or Devils who do not become Kin tend to live in much more isolated circumstances.    The only universal traits they share are that they call themselves Kin instead of Demons or Devils, and that they have a certain disdain for the culture and workings of the lower planes. Most trend to neutral or even good alignments.   Many are great artisans and artists, and some of the best smiths in the entire Free City come from Kin and Kin training.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Almost all Kin speak either Common, Infernal, or Abyssal; Many speak in a plane specific Infernal patois that incorporates words in both common and Abyssal. More than a few have a colloquial knowledge of Celestial as well, for communication with their neighbours.

Common Etiquette rules

It is considered extremely rude to point out, or ask what one's original plane or race was, or to refer to a Kin as anything other than Kin or Kinfolk.    They also do not use gendered forms of address such as Sir or Madam, as gender gets kind of fuzzy for some of the elder races. Instead, you might say    "Respected Kin" to someone you don't know, or "Respected {Name}" for someone you did. For Free Citizens who are outsiders to the community, they will instead use "Citizen".   For Non citizens, especially those of the lower planes variety, they might use "Abjured"
