Ostarian Revolutionaries

Under Ostarian Empire law a revolutionary is anyone who works to overthrow the government either through any means including writing, stirring people up, and violent resistance or assists those that do this. Depending on the circumstances, those that engage in this profession are fined, jailed, or even executed. However, these punishments do not stop the truly determined or desperate from engaging in it. The number of revolutionaries in the Empire has increased dramatically under the influence of Nalgi Ihize. Their words and actions have stirred many people into revolution, a revolution which is currently doing quite well much to the High Council of Ostari's dismay.

Career

Qualifications

The revolution will accept most everyone. People are encouraged to play into their strengths and keep in mind how committed they really want to or can be. The revolutionaries need people to fill all sorts of jobs, not just soldiers.

Career Progression

As people show competence, dedication, skill, and leadership potential they are promoted. As they continue showing these qualities and continue being successful they may move further and further up the chain of command. However some jobs, such as providing safe houses and recruitment, are more self directed and it is therefore much more difficult to rise up though these jobs.

Payment & Reimbursement

While the most dedicated members might scoff at the idea of needing to be paid for this, many people need to help support their families some way. The revolution suffers from a lack of funding so it usually pays meagerly and in items. There are a few mercenaries that are part of the revolution that demand much better payment.

Other Benefits

The benifits of possibly changing the empire, gaining governmental power, creating a more just government system, changing the established culture, and being a part of history is what drives most people to the job.

Perception

Social Status

Being a revolutionary does mean being a wanted criminal. They can't be open about their occupation for fear of discovery, punishment, and condemnation. The revolutionaries are looked down on by members of higher society and government loyalists. Revolutionaries do though tend to be moderately respected among the Charans as they understand and sympathize with the revolutionaries desires even if they do typically condemn the revolutionaries' use of violence.

Demographics

The vast majority of revolutionaries are peasants and lower class people. Several craftspeople and a couple of minor nobles make up the rest of them. Young adults are the most common age group.

History

Revolutionaries can be found throughout history, most famously Charra, but never before has there been an uprising of this scale in the Ostarian Empire. Spurred into action by Nalgi Ihize and the High Council's weakness, the peasants of the empire began to revolt. Using guerrilla warfare, a good spy network, and an excellent code they have managed to hold their own against the empire for quite some time.

Operations

Tools

Most non-combat revolutionaries use only their minds and household items to do their jobs. Combat revolutions typically use bows. When they must resort to melee combat their weapons tend to be farm or fishing tools. Most go unarmored but those that have armour wear padded or leather. Metal armour is all but unheard of for the revolutionaries.

Dangers & Hazards

Death, jailing, fining, and ostracization. Those that are revealed to be revolutionaries are usually thought of as a disgrace. Their family usually condemns them, if only to protect themselves.
