Elemental tsunami

An elemental tsunami is usually caused by a power burst of elemental water magic. Though the flow of magic between the elemental planes and the material ones is usually well controlled, a surcharge can sometime occur naturally or be manufactured. Instead of the water element cycling through the planes as it is supposed to, the surcharge will cause the balance to shift. Once the elemental power burst onto the material plane, the resulting tsunami reacts as any other tsunami, creating a series of waves caused by the major displacement of water cause by the explosion.   The event was studied by Sumistros, a shaman from the sea-elves tribe of Nhaaroth. Though their tribe is based in the Dread Ocean, he and some of his tribe travelled to the Shimmering Waves to study the build-up of power. Through divination, he was able to pinpoint the next imbalance both in space and time. As the power grew uncontrollable, the tribe also made contact with the land-based people who might be affected by the coming tsunami to warn them. The Shimmering Coast being made up of highlands, they assumed they would be okay and only moved some people to the higher ground. By comparison, Zodallos marshalled every of their mages and arcane apprentice to create a buffer to protect the kingdom from the incoming wave. This resulted in Zodallos weathering the tsunami particularly well and the Shimmering Coast being most destroyed.   Sumistros recorded that the power built up over the course of three entire years and coloured the site of the explosion in a haze of red long before the power burst. He wrote in his research paper that he surmised the power burst was not a matter of pure water magic building up. He surmised that the colouration could indicate that the power burst was partly due to fire elemental magics.
