Biologians

Wrights help us, my fears have been realized today. I found his papers hidden away. He'd tucked them behind one of his drawers. At first I couldn't figure out what to make of them. Peculiar drawings of small animals. A hare. A rat. A bird. But each drawing had their chests splayed open, and the grotesque images were primarily of their insides. I expect butchers to have this kind of knowledge, but I doubt they share what appears to be my husband's intimate enthusiasm. My Lin is a carpenter, what does he need with these perverse documents?
What a horrific thought! I just imagined him caressing our daughter's cheek after such deviancy! I'm off to see a Baluster at once. Perhaps they can save Lin from this depravity.

General Philosophy

In a Structuralist society Nature is viewed as a chaotic force. The divine creators, called the Wrights, gifted humanity with the ability to reason and create, and it is with these skills that humanity can shape Nature to its will. This is the purpose of life and it is important that members of the Structuralist society contribute work and ideas that facilitate this goal. Biologians are a sub-culture within Structuralism that holds a reverence for Nature and believe that humanity is not to conquer Nature but work in conjunction with Nature. This does not mean that Biologians disagree with all the basic tenets of Structuralism and its doctrine, The Articulation. They do believe that The Wrights are their divine creators, and that a strong society is built on hard work that benefits everyone. However human beings rely so much on Nature for survival that it seems unreasonable to view it as an enemy.
Some Biologians look to the creation myth to support their claims. Structuralists believe that human beings were carved out of Nature by The Wrights, the same way one would mill wood from a tree. In this metaphor, Biologians note that the lumber is still a tree, but with a new shape and purpose, thus humanity must still be apart of Nature and is no more above the chaos of nature than a raccoon or a bee. For the church this line of thinking is heretical and subject to rectification.

Levelers and Biologians

The Structuralist Fraternity of Levelers is the doctor class of the Structuralist Church. Their research necessitates studying nature in a more intimate way than the Church is comfortable with. Levelers are required go through the same religious education curriculum as the rest of the clergy before taking on their medical studies. This is meant to give Levelers the proper spiritual defenses to withstand the assumed corruptive forces of the Natural world. Despite these precautions, it is assumed that some Levelers have developed philosophies not unlike the Biologians, and may even be responsible for the movement themselves.

Practices

For fear of retribution, Biologians, particularly in small communities, keep their personal practices small and innocuous. They may tend to linger in the forest, observing animals and collecting data on how flowers pollinate. If a Biologians keep a diary it is usually hidden out of site and its secrecy is of utmost importance.

Orange Bell Pepper

Biologians have been known to use the An Orange Bell Pepper as a secret gesture to other Biologians, a simple sign of solidarity among like-minded people. Some have gone as far to actually leave messages inside the bell peppers as a way of disseminating new observations or thoughts on natures.
