Sentinels of the Queens Military Formation in Tacillia | World Anvil

Sentinels of the Queens

As the skat'ra minds are interlocked through their hive mind ability, the Sentinels of the Queens are one regiment within the skat’ra society although they live in different hills.

The sentinels’ primary objective is to defend the queens against all threats. Either from the outside or inside. Their secondary objective is to protect the princesses of the hills. And their tertiary object is to protect the hill and the hive in case the protection given by the regular warriors of the hills are insufficient to drive back the attackers.

Although the sentinels’ objectives are important to every member of every hill, their daily jobs are quite boring. Mostly they are standing guard next to the queens and princesses. There is no sane nation on Tacillia that would attack any hills and faces the warriors inside, let alone have to face the sentinels if they succeed in fighting through the waves and waves of warriors. And no skat’ra would attack the queens or the princesses. The scholars are aware only of a handful of occasions when the sentinels had to fight. The most notables were the deviant uprising and a crazed princess. Still, protecting the queens and princesses is important, and none of the skat’ras are against having an elite fighting regiment.

Selecting who can be the members of the sentinels is quite a painful but usually bloodless procedure. Every year every sentinel must fight to keep their position or regular warriors to earn that position. This way, only the best warriors can be sentinels each year. They use light, blunt weapons to avoid injury, and the winners are judged by their fellow sentinels and warriors. The respect among the ranks for each other is so high that even after just one clash, the fight can be stopped and the winner declared. The loser will have the option to fight against someone else in the hope of becoming a sentinel.
I don’t want to fight the sentinels, not even the warriors, hell, not even the workers, if I don’t have too
