Salk

Mostly mined in the waters of Fate Bay, Salk is a fairly rare ore. Much like coal it's a former biological composite made when heat and pressure have changed the composition of the former tissue. Salk is the ore that is created after a millennia or more of pressure and heat have worked on the corpse of a dragon. Salk doesn't burn well in it's natural form but does carry some potent magical properties and sells very well to magi of all kinds. From Witches who want to have a piece of dragon to study the nature of to necromancers who use the ancient piece of the dead as a focus to create undead or as an addition to a magical item for a focus. The major draw for it in modern times is alchemists. Beyond it's use for magi in general, alchemists can put salk into a solution that will turn it into a sludge that has many commonly useful properties, from starting a fire that burns white and clear (perfect for forges) in seconds, to unleashing lightening when a metal rod is inserted into it. The main key seems to be that the solution unlocks the elemental properties of the dragons heritage and it can then be harnessed through mundane means for non-magic users. From military applications to having a powerful acid on hand for glass making and smithing the list of uses just keeps going. The solution can be purchased then assembled by anyone, with the exact assembly method changed for whatever the user wants to prepare the salk to be used for.
