The Hazy Ridge
Located in southwest Vakor, the Hazy Ridge is a mysterious place not many dare pass through. This canyon connects Todmaroo Geb, the road from E'leset Lakul, to a small port village of Nes'a'il on the east coast of Vakor.
The Hazy Ridge is a labyrinth of passageways, tunnels and cave systems, many of those leading nowhere. As such, it is a tremendously dangerous place to be without a map. Of course, there is no map of the Ridge, as no the few who managed to pass through didn't set out to draw a map, nor were they masters of cartography.
And being lost forever in many meandering passageways of the Ridge may be enough to stop anyone from attempting to pass through, but these that the fate pushed into the depths of the Ridge will be challenged by its many inhabitants.
The Ridge is made up of a mountain range so broken and crisscrossed by paths, that not much of its initial form remains. It kept its height, so the towering rock walls rise and overtake most of the area, making the corridors below filled with darkness even in the middle of the day.
Many who died in this canyon, remain there as spirits, forever haunting the Ridge's narrow corridors. It is said that if you are unlucky enough to encounter a particularly nasty spirit, it will do everything to set you off the right path. And while it cannot physically touch you, it can affect your mind.
The other danger that lurks here are ridgelings. Spider-like creatures that have made the Ridge their home. The ridgelings' appearance may fool one to believe they are no more than overgrown spiders, however, their bony legs with ends sharp as any good sword, and their mouth rid of teeth and filled with twisted reddish skin, shows they are not an everyday animal. Ridgelings are the remnants of something long forgotten. An extinct creature that is yet to be identified. They are dangerous because their mouths are not used to eat insects or other animals, their mouth sucks the soul of a person right out of their body, leaving them an empty husk.
Those who survived ridgelings will never forget the encounter. But when asked how they managed to escape in the end, they could never quite put it to words.
