First Rogue's Riot

The Conflict

Prelude

The Lich King had unleashed his Fallen Plague on the Northern Continent , and the Copper Isles were suffering monetarily, as their trade had been reduced by half.  Queen Laurantis Mae, the Queen of the Copper Isles, had declared that the Copper Isles would be reopening trade with the Northern Continent as she did not want to  dip into the royal coffers to maintain the population.  This was a wildly unpopular decision, as many of the common folk of the Copper Isles were worried about the locusts being transferred during the merchant trades. Rogue King Duoia had been hearing complaints from the undercity of The Gem of the Copper Isles for almost a month, as things got tighter and tighter. Tensions were rising within the city, and Duoia knew things were reaching a breaking point.

Deployment

Duoia called a meeting of all the big players in the undercity, most of whom were already part of Duosia’s court, to figure out what to do about the Queen’s declaration.  When he arrived at the meeting, however, far more people had shown up than he had expected.  In fact, most of the undercity had turned up at the meeting, and a large chunk of the middle city as well.  The people, riled up by a common cause, wanted a solution that prevented the trade from reopening.
Duoia was struck by a sudden plan, and with a few quick words gathered the crowd behind him and began to march towards the Queen’s castle.

The Engagement

The crowd, deeply enraged, surrounded the palace, and began chanting “Remove the Queen”. They set up barricades, and bunkered down for a siege. And although the Queen tried many ways to dislodge them, calling in all her guards and armies, they would not be moved. Finally, after a 3 week long siege, the Queen abdicated her throne, and Rogue King Duoia coordinated the retreat, with the riot dissolving back into the undercity.

Outcome

As a result of the riot, Queen Laurantis Mae abdicated her throne, and with no designated heir the king fell into a succession crisis for almost 100 years.

Aftermath

Duoia realized the full extent of the power that the Rogue King wields of the common folk, and worked with his court to formalize a mechanism for him or future Rogue Kings to call a riot.  Since then, a handful of Rogue Kings have called riot, and achieved results ranging from law changes to monarch abdications.
In addition, due to the succession crisis caused by Queen Laurantis Mae’s abdication, trade with the Northern Continent did not reopen until the Lich King’s plague had been dealt with, and so the locusts never spread to the Southern Continent
