Turasen

The Turasen's are the hardest fighters you can buy for the steepest of prices. I once called down a two companies to aid in the defense of Luhar-puar. Those two companies didn't just hold the slaving packs, they drove them back into the jungle and burnt out a lair. Yes, half the cities children were fair price to pay for the peace and prosperity that they ensured.
  • Lord Umesh Randalli of Granda
  • Tura, The Mercenary City is largest and northmost human city in creation. Once home to an ancient power, the humans of Tura inhabited the city after its fall in the Divine Wars. The Turasen's are descented from the people enslaved by the False God of Turan, escaping and forming their own settlements within the massive cities walls.
However, their habitation was not welcomed by the remains of the False god's subjects and the Humans of Tura fought generations of conflicts against their old masters. Eventually forcing them down into the deeps below the city. It took another two generations of campaigning to free secure the upper city, but eventually the warriors of Turan finally found some sembelence of peace.
The city developed around the five original human citadels, each a city unto itself expanding in every direction. The Turasens eventually started to settle and cultivate aird lands to the south, allying themselves with two other human kingdoms and several human clans. Despite their brief respite, new enemies began to harry the Turasens and their allies.  Each summer, raptor slavers attacked the southren kingdoms looking for slaves. The southerner kingdoms and clans suffered immensely from these raids, the raptor warrior's speed and strength proving to be a deadly advantage over their human adversaries. Tura's warriors proved devastatingly effective at fighting the raptors, their generations of military experience against the enemy proving to be invaluable. However, eldritch interlopers from the north forced the Turasen army's focus from the south. The madding fighting requiring a constant cycle of soldiers to avoid insanity. Chronic exposure to the eldritch armies mixed with the trauma of combat lead to a magically insane state. The Turasens were never able to push the Eldritch interlopers of their boarders, and the ensuing war of attrition ate away at their fighting forces. An average soldier could only spend six years across two tours in the northren front before his mind would break, severely limiting the Turasen's ability to sustain a prolonged conflict.
However, General-Lord Kusha of the Crippled Legion found a solution. Though many soldiers were lost in the north, many more simply couldn't return, because of the madness, these otherwise capable soldiers slowly began to build up over a half decade, and began to mobilize into their own bands. Kusha, a general formed the first mercenary house, known as The Crippled Legion. Kusha solved two problems at once when he negotiated his first contract with the Ranal clan. The Legion would protect the clan in exchange for three methods of payment, recruits for the northerner war, food for Tura, and silver for the company.  This method of business spread rapidly transitioning Tura into a mercenary economy.
