Feather of Unfettered Knowing Item in Pathfinder: Fables | World Anvil

Feather of Unfettered Knowing

"You pick up on the frantic scratch of quill against paper. Quickly rounding the corne, you notice a guest book laying before you, quill neatly dipped in the ink. Approaching it, you find the names of your companions- and your own name- already written."

The Feather of Unfettered Knowing is a rare, enchanted quill pen capable of recording and recalling vast amounts of information. Its last known location was The Library of Forbidden Knowledge in Stygia .

Significance

Once it has been attuned to an owner, the quill is capable of several extraordinary feats.
To begin, it can sense any living or undead creature that passes the threshhold of a room that it has been attuned to - regardless of the size of the room. If the being has a name, it can record it, knowing the information seemingly intuitively. If instructed, it can write down details of the visit - recounting sights, sounds, and strange occurrences, despite the apparent inability to sense them.
The quill can also record transcribe conversation perfectly, as quickly as the words are spoken, regardless of how many participants are speaking at once. It can recall and re-record any information it has recorded in the past, and if pressed, share details of past events that it was present for with seemingly perfect accuracy.

Peculiarly, the quill seems to be capable of sharing thoughts and opinions of its own, though such an occurrence is relatively rare. It has never responded to queries regarding the nature of its origin or sentience.
This has led to theories that the pen is not merely a powerful, enchanted item, but perhaps also demon or a powerful mage who somehow trapped themself within the utensil. Regardless of the truth, no answers will be extracted from the quill itself.

Unique Artifact
Rarity
While its origins are forever lost to history, most speculate the utensil to be entirely unique. This, along with widespread recognition of its name, has given rise to the idea that it does not exist at all, nor had it ever existed in reality. Regardless, there are several individuals and a few kingdoms all throughout the who claim possession of documents written by the feather. Document subject matter varies but in every case, the pristine handwriting is written in flawless, decorated penmanship.
