Destiny’s Pool

Deep within the mountains, further down than any warren, there is said to be a pool of water within a large cavern. The precise location of the pool has been lost to time, yet there are occasional adventurers who delve down into the mountains to seek it. The pool is believed to show one’s future, and many darkling soothsayers claim that the underground plants they use in their traditions somehow draw their water from the pool.   Sound, of course, reverberates underground, and drips from subterranean water supplies are a commonly heard throughout the warrens. However, in the area where the pool is rumored to be found there are those who swear they hear voices traveling up through the caverns, calling their names when no one is nearby. Barely a whisper, these sounds seem to echo through the caverns.   Fortune tellers say that these echoes emanate from the mythical pool itself, speaking futures to each person. Claiming that they are attuned to these “echoing fates,” soothsayers listen not just their own echoes, but those of others as well. Their art generally uses water in some fashion in either a bowl or other basin.   Underdwellers believe that if one stands at the edge of this pool, their reflections and the sounds of the cavern will tell them their future. The person must drip a droplet of their blood into the pool for it to "know them."   Their reflection is said to alter with the ripples of the pool and speak back to them from beneath the surface, their own voice bouncing off the acoustics of the cavern.   Drinking the water is supposed to give a more vivid vision of one’s future, but is also said to be exceedingly dangerous. After drinking, one might get confused as to where they are in time due to the hallucinations. This has lead to Darklings having widely varying opinions whether knowing one’s fate is good or bad.
