The Breaking of the Deity Myth in On the Road Again | World Anvil

The Breaking of the Deity

The current understanding as to why the Frozen Sands of Time are how they are, the rï'imi believe this was the site of dispute or reconciliation of the gods. The story varies widely amongst the rï'imi, though none hold to one or another with passion as any of the varieties of this "myth" could be truth.   Species other than rï'imi do not generally claim to believe that this story has any basis in reality, but at the same time they have no other way of explaining why the Frozen Sands of Time are like they are.   In this context, deity is used to mean the rï'imi pantheon of the time. All their divine beings as one made up the deity. (Once again, others argue that many deities should make up one divine, but the rï'imi have never submitted to the linguistic beliefs of others.)

Summary

Do-lidna called for a meeting. This congregation was dreaded by all other Divines, but a meeting was long overdue. The arguments between Leith and J'nnik had dragged in the Peaadaar siblings, including Lornä. Therefore, the Divine Dama'anti and Ansy insisted all come to the meeting.   At the Meeting, the only ones who arrived were Dama'anti, Ansy, Do-lidna, Örla, Imoh'en, Cairistiona, Tyyn, and Leith. This infuriated Do-lidna and Leith (making all wonder if Do-lidna and Leith had some sort of collaboration going on). Dama'anti refused to use their Rite of Naming and sent Ansy after J'nnik and their spouse Auellan, Leith to gather his own congregation, and Örla after the Peaadaar siblings.   Örla found the Peaadaar siblings on the Isle of Rraj'an'ji. Despite her strength in relationships, Cathal spent most of his time threatening her with various Terrifying Things as Lornä avoided the situation entirely. Fortunately she finally convinced Asta to rein in his brother and sister and return to the Meeting. Upon their return, Leith had already come back with Nalinit, Malvinak, and Aoibhea in tow. There they waited for Ansy to return with the last of them.   Ansy found Auellan in the emptiness of Dravadaxaahta, where she found him being obtuse. He refused to admit where his spouse was hiding, so Ansy sent him to the Meeting and continued on her path of Discovery. This took weeks, long enough for those at the meeting to become both bored of Do-lidna's lectures and tilted toward believing in Leith (even those who were less likely to believe in him and preferred J'nnik). Ansy sent word back to Dama'anti that she had tracked J'nnik down close to the Eight Mountains (Plus One), but worried after all this time they would still refuse to come. Tired of this nonsense, Dama'anti declared that the Meeting would take place where J'nnik was, so the fourteen Divines joined Ansy at the moment of her Discovery.   The sixteen finally had their meeting in this place, where Dama'anti became so fed up with J'nnik and Leith the meeting ended in the area becoming frozen.

Historical Basis

As the Frozen Sands of Time exist, there is no doubt something highly magical occurred in the area. Also, all stories of Divine intervention by all species have none set after the point this is said to take place. This includes species with less contact with the rï'im (at the time) and those who believe in an entirely different sect of gods.

Spread

As the Frozen Sands of Time and the Deity are very important to the rï'imi, most people by now have heard about this. While the rï'imi do not push their religious views onto others, it is very important to their lives and any who like discussions with rï'imi or like to read their poetry will not only know about this myth, but know several variations of it.

Variations & Mutation

There are almost as many variations of the myth as there are rï'imi. It always begins the same way, yet what happens at the Meeting and what the "breaking" actually is differs immensely. There is the one common thought that a battle started between J'nnik and Leith's congregation, which Dama'anti finished. Most Divines, upset with the battle and the outcome, then separated to no longer hold the Deity as they once did and leaving Geville for good. The other most commonly held belief is that the Meeting went on so long because Do-lidna was allowed to speak so often, that J'nnik and Leith finally made up just to get away from her. Yet Aoibhea, bored out of her mind, tricked Dama'anti into cursing the place (another variation: trying to target Do-lidna, but failing) into its frozen state. In this second variation, the "breaking" was the Deity with Geville, as the argument was about the Divines' place in the world.

Cultural Reception

As the last place the Deity touched on earth, the Frozen Sands of Time is now a place of great importance to the rï'imi, because of the Breaking of the Deity alone. This legend is fact, none of them question that some Breaking occurred in that place, even if none are certain how the story truly ended.   Tyyros try to comprehend the bulk of rï'imi culture and beliefs, but it is scattered whether as a whole they generally believe in the Deity at all, whether this story is true, or whether they consider it all some fascinating fabrication.   As for all other species, they use this legend as a quick explanation, whether they believe or not, because hell - if the Frozen Sands of Time could be explained with anything, why not this?
