Vanderbrook

Pirate Haven
Piracy has been common on the seas for almost just as long as there have been people traversing them. For as many locales featuring a black market that was happy to take their goods, there were few if any places that would offer them solace. Many crews were searching for an option for an option that offered them both a place to sell their goods as well as get some much needed rest ashore. Thus led to a group of captains meeting and agreeing to create Vanderbrook. Settling North of Sicerrone in Jerun's Strait gave them access to the most highly trafficked merchant routes in the entirety of Nora; it was perfect.    Vanderbrook is located in a large cove on the western side of the Freelands. Beyond the cove is a series of caverns leading into the coastline cliffs that have been landscaped for waterflow to allow small boats to travel in. The caverns themselves have had the walls lined with stacks of stolen and decommissioned ships, loosely connected with a series of ramps and platforms. These developments have caused the cove to evolve into a legitimate ramshackle town and home for all pirates and thieves on the sea.   The structures wrap around the walls of the caverns, creating a bowl in the center of them where rowboats gather to ferry people in and out of the town. While there is no pattern to the areas and how the ships are split up, they are fairly evenly divided between shops, sleeping areas, and entertainment centers. Finding the exact location of the shop or individual one would be looking for is a foolhardy venture in its own. One would have to rely on the untrustworthy directions of thieves and pirates, or searching door by door as they went. Opening the wrong door into a Pirate Lord's private quarters was most often a death sentence.   Inside the entertainment centers, it is easy to find more than just pirates. When word spread that the pirates had established their own hub, many criminals and persons engaging in louche, lucrative behavior travelled from all over the world to come take part in such a place. Thieves, murderers, prostitutes, slavers, and more have filled the caverns of Vanderbrook. Even common citizens and merchants who have found themselves brave enough have ventured to Vanderbrook in search of illicit goods and services.
Pirate Lord Richard Vander
Richard Vander, a renowned Lord from the Golden Age of Piracy in Nora, was an instrumental founder of Vanderbrook. Although he didn't obtain the most treasure or confirmed kills as some of the other Pirate Lords, he had the largest number of captured ships under his command. He once had several dozen ships under his command, though it spread his crew thin. Lord Vander consolidated his crew and contributed over fifty ships to the caverns, making up the vast majority of the structures within Vanderbrook.

Supply and Demand
Vanderbrook boasts the largest black market in all of Nora, not even the Undermarket of Sicerrone can compete with their supply. While this is mostly perpetuated by pirates, powerful collectors or adventurers have made trips through the dangers of Vanderbrook in search of rare or occult items they couldn't find in any legal market.
