Fyris stones are an ore-like crystal that is mined in the great mountains of Asunndre by the Dwarven Kingdom. While available for the Kingdom of Ravero, the stones seems like they haven't fully been able to create the same light as the Dwarfs.

Properties

Material Characteristics

While yet to be found in other locations, the stone can be mistaken for ores of red iron and blue gemstones, but what makes them different from these are the touch and feel of it, being less rough than the others mentioned in their raw form. Many have been found to be shining in certain light conditions and if touched with magic flowing through something, like a hand, it gives off its own light when consentraed in certain ways.

Physical & Chemical Properties

After extraction and refining, you would get palm-sized stones that would be warm to touch. This because it stores energy and can be given off as light, or even flames if focused in another way.

History & Usage

Discovery

The first discovery of these rocks and stones was around Valen's time the year 0. Deep in the rocks Dwarfs found this ore that when written on with runes of magic or letting the magic flow through it, which resulted in it giving off light. It is said, however, that it was a miner that used his torch close to the ore and it began to blink softly due to the heat, and it became hotter and hotter to touch.

Everyday use

In the Dwarven Kingdom, it is used as a fine light source in many the wealthy and the nobilities home. They are placed around in several forms, like candles, on the walls with cages and even inside the walls. As their only danger is becoming too hot and unstable so they crack, it is far safer than a tallow candle with actual fire.
Outside the Dwarven Kingdom, it is only Ravero that has been able to find this rare material. However, they have not been fully able to use this material's potential as a light source due to the specific magic writing or runes that is needed, something the Dwarfs never shared before their isolation. Some mages have been successful in creating magic scripts for the crystal-ore, but far too large for any good use. This is why several have been used as a close to an everlasting flame, due to the secondary property of turning magical power into fule for a fire through the stone.

Refinement

As it is found as a state of being a large lump of rock and gem, it has a need to being refined. Dwarfs create cabochons of the material's unrefined form, eventually creating a crystal that can shine greatly instead of a more dime light. It is submerged in a polishing liquid that makes it so the gem cutter can create either smaller stones or designs that can be put into walls etcetera.

Trade & Market

The companies that finds veins of the gem-ore trades quite exclusively with wealthy and rich. It is somewhat of a luxury material but as more and more is found, the price has been slowly going downwards.
