Telstone Material in Mithra | World Anvil

Telstone

Mined in quarries around the southern Republic city of Telton. This stone is used in a lot of new-republic style buildings. It is kind of a hassle to mine and cut into pieces, but it works remarkably well in the construction of the pyramid-like structures that the republic makes.

Aquisition

The quarries, and the stone itself until it is fully processed stinks like rotten eggs, this is because of the small sulfur veins that course through it. Not only do these smell bad, but they are also dangerous, for they weaken the stones. After they are cut from the quarries, which is done with chisels and hammers, the stone is brought back to Telton where it is further processed and shipped out to the rest of the Hearthlands. The stone itself however only comes from a few known places where massive concentrations of them lie in the hills. One of these places is the area around Telton, while another is in Stellios. There are a lot more smaller veins, but they are often few and far between. This makes it quite a rare type of stone. It is very valuable in construction, for it is stronger than limestone or granite. It is also quite a bit denser though, which doesn't make it good for every construction project. Once processed the stone is also very smooth, but still has texture, unlike marble. The latter being even more expensive than Telstone, and also not having the same "homely" feeling.
