Catherine Woodleaf grew up among the higher middle-class in Shimtide and during this time she often got into trouble, so much so that when she was old enough her parents send her off to a military academy in the hope that the time there would make her calm down.
After a few years having completed the education at the academy, graduating among the top of her class and would return to her hometown and would volunteer as a member of the local militia and over the following years, she would by the locals be seen as the local hero ever since she defended her local city almost by herself.
After the attack on her hometown people started to notice that she had changed but every time someone tried to ask her about it, she would just struck it off and say its nothing.

During her time at the academy, she ended up turning her hated on her parents into a hatred for the empire as well, she would begin to speak against some of the actions of the empire and this caught the attention of some Clifian spies that had infiltrated the academy and before she knew it she was feeding the Clifian state information of Dercian strategy and plans.
This continued for several years until she delivered some info that a part of the Dercian coast was very thin and unknown to her the Clifians decided to stage a raid but ended up sailing out of course and ended up attacking her hometown of Shimtide instead when she saw the Clifians sailing into the town she believed that her contacts had betrayed her and rallied the militia to her in the hope of defending the town.
