Myrmidons Armour

Worn by the elite warriors of the Empire, this armour is forged the day someone is made a Myrmidon, and refined, enchanted and otherwise improved as their years of service go by, this armour is as important to the warriors as their own lives. If one is stripped of their rank, due to dishonour or crimes, their armour is destroyed and the warrior disgraced.   The greatest Myrmidons armour have becomes items of legend, and are often enshrined and worshipped. It is believed that these ancient warriors reside within the armour still. While rare, some have been allowed to don the armour of others, including these legends, and have been granted great power and insight by their former wielders. However, if one not worthy, one not chosen, dons the armour, they are driven mad. Many have their bodies break, or their minds destroyed, while others, too strong to be stopped by these afflictions, become bloodthirsty berserkers, rampaging and murdering until they die, be it from exhaustion, old age or at the hands of another.   So great is the belief in this practise that not even the Emperor or Empress may have a suit of this armour created for them if they are not found suitable of following the path of the Myrmidon. To become worthy, one must be chosen by the gods, or have performed great deeds. Unlike the majority of the Empires army, Myrmidons can come from all races and classes, as Ares, the one who blessed the first Myrmidon, cares not for pointless things such as bloodlines or titles, but instead in the concepts of honour and might, of ability and skill.   If chosen, the prospective Myrmidon must travel, with no more than a small group approved of by Ares, to the Blades, the mountain range known for its unusually sharp and pointed peaks. Amongst these mountains, they must pass a trial, and retrieve the ore required to forge their armour. Should they succeed and survive, they will be expected to take part in the forging of the armour itself, including a special ritual of which the details are a closely guarded secret. Even this does not guarantee the warriors place amongst the Myrmidon however. Should the creation of the armour go awry, through no fault of the smiths, it will be viewed as Ares viewing the warrior as unworthy, and the armour will be destroyed.
