Aetherite Material in Liria | World Anvil

Aetherite

The artificer finishes up his work on the construction of the new Aether-powered saw for the mills. The workman seemed joyful that their job was just made easier, they would be able to get their work done in half the time. What would they think of next? The foreman call the men over and ran them the basic instructions on running the new saw. He pulled out a large blue crystal, he then inserted into a cylindrical chamber on the machine. He then closed the hatch on the opening and pulled the lever on the side of the machine. The machine shook, made a few grinding sounds and the blade began spin on its own!

Properties

Material Characteristics

Aetherite is a crystal of various shades of blue ranging from a sky blue to a midnight blue. No matter the color of the crystal, it will always give off a bluish hue luminescence. Aetherite can be found in various sizes from millimeters small to many meters large. The crystals came in various geometric polyhedron sided formations. The lighter the color of the crystal the more translucent in appearance the crystal will be.

Physical & Chemical Properties

No matter the size of the Aetherite, it will always be slightly warm to the touch. This is caused by the Aether energy stored within the crystal.

Compounds

Aetherite is made of a cumulation of Aether in an area. Under the arcane study, it is shown that they are made of pure Aether and no other compounds have been found mixed within naturally. However, Aetherite, has been used within mixtures for potions.

Geology & Geography

Aetherite is found in many places around Liria. It is always found along an Aether Lines or any size. The larger the Aether Line the greater crystallization of Aetherite can be found. This crystalline form of Aether can be found both underground and above the area where an Aether Line runs. This is not to be mistaken for raw Aether which can be found anywhere growing naturally, usually underground and is much more harmful as well as being far more concentrated.

Origin & Source

It is commonly believed by Arcanist researchers that these crystals are byproducts of Aether collection from the area and surrounding biome. What isn't converted into raw Aether deep underground acts a byproduct that crystallizes near or above the surface.

Life & Expiration

In current use and testing, it has been found that Aetherite retains its arcane charge for an indefinite amount of time. However, it can be depleted over time through use and application.

History & Usage

Discovery

Aetherite was first discovered by the Elves in 1073 AC. A group of elves found themselves trapped while following an Aether Lines leading deep underground. This lead then to an undiscovered crystal formation that reacted to the uses of arcane the group was forced to use while defending themselves from denizens of the underground. They extract a sample of this crystal and research began on them upon their return to the surface.

Everyday use

The most common uses for Aetherite relates to arcane applications such as the brewing of potions, creation of spells reagents, arcane construction, as well as, arcane item creation and manipulation.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Aetherite has become the cornerstone of all arcane technological advancement. Currently is applications revolve around arcane magic and devices, but potentially has much greater users according to research data. Further uses are currently being researched in secret facilities to expand the knowledge of the precursor Aether-Tech, which seems to rely heavily on the use or dependence of Aetherite.

Industrial Use

Aetherite is used for the construction of arcane emplacements such as arcane circles and embedded warding on buildings and vehicles. Many city walls can be seen laced with Aetherite as part of their protection against arcane assaults. Aetherite is also used to fuel spells, arcane devices, and some developing technologies such as simple machine automation and the first transportation devices currently being researched and tested.

Refinement

Raw Aether can be refined with a multi-stepped arcane ritual process that solidifies the Aether into a crystal and making the raw Aether no longer intoxicating. However, the process has it own dangers as the Arcanists are exposed to raw Aether for an extended period of time. This limits the refinement of raw Aether and focuses on relying on naturally form clusters of Aetherite.

Manufacturing & Products

Aetherite is used as a base material for the creation of many types of potions, include health and enhancement potions. You'll also find it being used in the construction of arcane items by providing a source for spells and enchantment to latch and lock into an object and as well as a changeable and disposable fuel to power specialized affects.

Hazards

The only known hazard of Aetherite if each one has a determined limited of Aether they can store before become volatile and possible cracking or even exploding.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Because of Aetherite availability, anyone with the money and skill can find a plot to harvest, if they wish to get into that business venture. However, the Otemus Academy is the largest supplier of Aetherite, running their own mining, transportation, and marketing for their product.

Storage

Storage for Aetherite is usually packed in crates with padding, more to prevent rattling, then damage. Secure warehouses are set up to store a large quantity of crates for major distributors, while smaller dealers tend to find their own local storage, usually in safes, but some have been known to sub-lease space through a larger distributor warehouse.

Law & Regulation

Aetherite sits in a legal quagmire that has yet to be settled among the kingdoms as a whole. Currently, Aetherite is completely legal to own and use, however, it uses outside the arcane are extremely limited at this time. With it being a necessary resource for arcane uses, the Otemus Academy has been trying to influence the changing of laws. They believe this because it is their obligation to regulate and control any arcane that may potentially pose a threat now or in the future.
