Legrandian War
The Conflict
Prelude
After the end of the last Brigettian Holy Conquest in 1621, the Old Thurnetorrian Empire became the largest human empire in Leitoria's history. It ruled the majority of Pelatoria for over a hundred years. Although several rebellions were attempted, none ever gained much progress until 1752 when several rebel groups from across the continent banded together to fight against the empire on a much larger scale.
The Engagement
The Legrandian War lasted for six years. Rebels from the nations of Freyisdel, Jirithkae, Rhenace, Marrith, and Iri'tal all banded together to form one united army.
Very little of the war was spent engaging in battles between armies, as even the combined rebel forces couldn't match the empire in numbers or supplies. Instead, the rebels fought back by constantly moving their forces and tactically taking cities and supply routes to break apart the empire. These tactics, along with the Old Thurnetorrian Empires already crumbling internal politics and economy, eventually led to victory over the empire.
Outcome
Aftermath
The nations of Iri'tal, Marrith, Freyisdel, and Jirithkae all reclaimed their former land. Although it took time, all four eventually managed return to their former strength.
The Kingdom of Rhenace was much more severely weakened from the fighting and the hundred year occupation. The small nation was located right at the center of much of the Legrandian War, and was by far hit the hardest by its aftermath. Fifty years later, the kingdom was conquered by the Jirithkaen empire to the south and became the province of North Jirithkae.
Although Thurnetorre remained as a kingdom, it was reduced back to the small area that it had originally held before the Brigettian Holy Conquests. It had also lost much of its wealth to internal corruption and the six year long war. The Thurnetorrian monarchy still claims that a second Thurnetorrian empire will soon rise to reclaim its lost territory, but considering its still weakened state that claim seems unlikely.
Historical Significance
Legacy
In Literature
Thurnetorrians traditionally name their wars after the ruler of the time, which in this case was King Legrand Bourdelle. The allied rebel forces quickly adopted the Legrandian War as the name of the conflict since they considered King Legrand the one responsible for the continued occupation of their homelands.
