Old Thurnetorrian Empire

The Old Thurnetorrian Empire was the only human nation to come close to ruling the entire continent of Pelatoria. During their reign, the Old Thurnetorrian monarchs spread their nation's culture, legends, and ideas across the continent.

Structure

The empire was ruled by an absolute hereditary monarch from the Bourdelle royal family. The vast imperial territory was divided up by Thurnetorrian noble houses who were under the authority of the monarch but were permitted to govern their provinces how they saw fit.

Public Agenda

The empire sought to create the largest and most powerful nation in the history of the human race. Although they succeeded, the ambition of the Thurnetorrian monarchs outstretched their capability to hold the land they had together. The empire's sheer size made it difficult to control and eventually led to the fall of Old Thurnetorre.

History

Although the kingdom of Thurnetorre had existed for centuries before, the Old Thurnetorrian Empire was officially founded in 1621 DE at the conclusion of a series of military campaigns known as the The Brigettian Holy Conquests

These wars were fought under the direction of Queen Brigette Bourdelle the Conqueror, one of the most famous queens and military leaders in Thurnetorrian history.

After twenty four years of on and off fighting, Thurnetorre controlled Marrith, Jirithkae, Freyisdel, Rhenace, Iri'tal, and parts of the Ainan territory. With the majority of Pelatoria under its control, the empire was established as one of the most powerful nations in Leitorian history.

Disbandment

After over a century under the control of the empire, the conquered Pelatorian nations finally overthrew Old Thurnetorre in what would eventually be known as the Legrandian War.

Rebellions had been attempted before, but the Legradian War succeeded due to a combination of greater communication among rebel forces across the continent, the rapid adoption of new technology in warfare, and the empire's own severe internal instability. After six years of fighting, the reigning monarch King Legrand Bourdelle finally surrendered, marking the end of the Old Thurnetorrian Empire.

Its successor nation the Kingdom of Thurnetorre claims to be the same empire that once ruled over most of the continent. In truth however, the Old Thurnetorrian Empire fell a long time ago and the modern kingdom holds barely any power in international politics.

Legacy

Although it fell over a century ago, the impact of the continent-spanning empire still effects those living today.

Common Thurnetorrian, the official language of the empire, is still considered the language of trade and diplomacy and is taught in schools across the continent, while the flower inspired Thurnetorrian calendar is the most widely used measure of the year. Thurnetorrian cultural stories and myths have also been widely spread across the world.

Technological Level

The steam engine was invented during the empire's rule, leading to the spread of steam powered machines throughout the nation. Although steam powered vehicles were implemented into the imperial military, they were adopted by growing resistance movements much more quickly. Weapons manufacturing factories and rapid improvements to explosive and firearm technologies helped the combined rebel forces of the conquered nations eventually fight back against the imperial army during the Legrandian War.
