Pearl Gardener is an arcane profession in The Teeth mainly practiced by Gnomes.

Career

Qualifications

An affinity to magic is recommended, as magic is needed for parts of the process, it is not required by all Pearl Gardeners. Another qualification is knowledge in the arcane. Most pearl gardeners are low power mages with an knowledge in the arcane.

The average wage for a pearl gardener is 4 gold per day.

Pearl Gardeners generally are seen as high middle class. It is a good profession associated with magic, but one of the spectacular professions associated with magic.

About 0,05% (one in 20 000) gnomes are pearl gardeners.

History

I has been a common profession for gnome mages since about 100 AP. After the Third Disintegration and the spread of the different mutations of the Arcardi Plague pearl gardening became illegal on The Teeth as by the laws of the gnomes there, as pearl gardening helped some mutations of arcardi plague to spread.

Tools

Alchemist tools are used together with magic to create the special powder that are used to create the pearls. Many common gardening tools, as shovels, are used to mix the the powder with the earth, and to dig up the earth when the pearls have grown.

Materials

Many different minerals with different arcane properties and powdered lead. They are all mixed into a grey powder refereed to as Pearl Powder as it is used to create pearls.

Workplace

The pearl farm is divided into three main parts: The Garden, The Study and The Lab. The garden is where the pearls are created and harvested. The study is where the formulas for the Pearl Powder is calculated. The lab is where the Pearl Powder is created.

Legality

Illegal since september 503 due to a mutation of the Arcardi Plague. The new mutation of the arcardi plague seeks out highly concentrated magic and therefor mainly elemental pearls. It consumes the arcane energy and grows a crystal where it was. The crystal which is infectious for plants and causes plants many kilometers away to die. Many of the pearls gardened became such crystals and caused plants to die all over the teeth.
What is feared the most is that the Arcardi Tree would spread to where this mutation of the arcardi plague exists, currently they do not exist together anywhere in the world. If they did it is feared that they would cause a symbiotic relationship that would be very dangerous for all natural life.
Currently the plan is to study the crystals and the mutation and learn how to beat it. There are still a few Pearl Gardeners working, with an focus of studying the crystals. These special Pearl Gardeners has been allowed to create pearls in special restricted areas, deep in caves where the mutation and crystals can be contained. The exact location of these caves are secret but known to be far from other people.
