Adhi'apaka

Though religions in Kytheria all tend to accept established facts as their basis while changing the focus (the gods are real and interact with the world, ancestors may still communicate with and help their descendants, and the world itself has a spirit as do most other things within the world), the Adhi'apaka leads a different belief that is somewhat counter to but not exclusive of these other beliefs. She teaches Rasatā, or The Way, a nebulous system that is less about belief and more about understanding. Many who practice Rasatā do so alongside other religions and there's little issue, though occasionally one will balk at certain precepts and not behave in a culturally expected way.   The Adhi'apaka herself has abstained from moving on to that fate which awaits ascended human souls, and instead reincarnates time and time again to continue her teaching directly. Her memories remain largely intact and at the age of 6, when the soul is said to be fixed in place, the new Adhi'apaka reveals herself without fail after the prior one perishes. Though noted for not indulging in any kind of vice and limiting physical pleasures, the Adhi'apake teaches through example that she overcame these things and genuinely feels no call to them. Though born first as a woman the Adhi'apaka has incarnated as all genders and from every geographical region. Her current incarnation is a woman from the easternmost part of the Great Continent, far from the grasp of the Emperor, who seeks her as a potential threat to his power.   The Adhi'apaka appeared three thousand years ago and has incarnated one hundred and nineteen times. She has been assassinated and formally executed, and remembers the events with great detail. Her teachings have also been adopted by monarchs and nations, some of whom took them to heart and others who sought to exert influence over her for temporal power. Some of her pupils are rumored to have passed the Last Veil, a term for what lies beyond the normal Otherworld cycle humans engage in. Some may have become gods or others elves, though if gods favored by the followers of Rasatā are ascended pupils, they make no mention.
