Sundering

To sever a parasitic connection across planes

"Here, take this weapon. I know it looks a little unwieldly, but you'll find it surprisingly light, like it's not there at all. When you think about it, it really isn't, ha! At least not for us. But if we've done our job, it should be verrry real to those blasted parasites."
— Landril Belskett, Artificer

The miraculously simple cure for those magical maladies caused when an astral being latches onto a soul and either marks it to make it more noticeable to other nefarious forces on the astral plane, or parasitically siphons off its energy.

Of Elven Origins

Discovery

The first uses of this technique originated in Slehean myth and tradition. They had developed a ritual spell that would call upon a Sunderbeast from the astral plane to remove anyone's spectral parasites.

When the nightmarish symptoms of Astral Delirium spread throughout Thundermaw and began to plague Bhunyar, the city's top healers and wizards set to work studying how the disease spread and what could be done to cure it. With the help of an inquisitive band of students, they soon found the root cause and adapted the ancient elven techniques to a practical application: the Cleaver of Sundering.

Access/availability

So far there is only one Cleaver made to treat this sort of condition, and it only works reliably against the Delirium in particular, but it disposes of the parasite with ease.

Although the same effect can be created through a lengthy elven ritual, the spell technique can cleanse more people from a greater variety of astral parasites.

Complexity

This is an example of top-of-the-line pathscript technology. It requires a considerable amount of aetherite dust, and the blade must be forged of a metal that is especially sensitive to enchantment so that it may be made incorporeal.
