Aetherink Scroll

Aetherink scroll’s are a fairly common document that can be found across Ur. It is a document created to retain and discharge arcane influence into the world. Their uses are varied and can range from mundane authorization manifestations to destructive arcane sequences bending the elements to the authors design.

These are aether soaked materials with arcane circuitry inked using Aether sap. Essentially these documents harbor the ability to manifest the elements or real space (the physical world) when the arcane circuitry (sigils) is activated. The arcane circuitry are sigils or patterns that allow the aether to dissipate and interact with the elements of the cloth like material and discharge their purpose.
For example there are explosive Aetherink scrolls, noxious gases, water spouts, gusts of wind and for the more powerful ones some that can affect perception of time, reality or other arcane influences in the world. Generally speaking these are used for combat or emergencies but in the end are really just a way to stockpile arcane power without taxing the arcanist’s organic resources.

To use these scrolls a skilled arcanist must simply unfurl, find the ignition seal or sigil on the back of the scroll, point towards the intended target and channel a slight amount of naturally occurring aether from their reservoir (body, chi/mana like resource) to trigger the intended effect. Upon being triggered the Aetherink scroll will channel the small ignition of the arcanists ether and amplify it along the arcane circuitry while interacting with the scrolls material to produce the desired effect. Depending on the quality of the scrolls material, Aether saturation, quality of the circuitry and finesse of the Arcanist some of these Aetherink scrolls may be used multiple times or even indefinitely for some of the less destructive effects.
However it is much more likely that the Aetherink scroll will be consumed from the Aetherink scrolls discharge, generally consuming the saturated aether, charring the circuitry or fracturing it. For the truly incompetent, they may trigger the Aetherink scroll so badly it can misfire, creating a backlash of energy that generally harms the user or those around them. Aether is a volatile energy and best avoided by untrained Arcanists or Aethermute Kaiur (People of Ur incapable of channeling or manifesting Aether).
