Winter Festival Tradition / Ritual in Kaitstud | World Anvil

Winter Festival

Winter Festival is celebrated by the Fox clan in Kaitstud at the start of winter. It is the last big festivity before the cold hits properly. Every cafe and inn and vending house is open, there are numerous stages for music around the town. Everyone dresses up and wanders around the street eating and drinking and dancing from one to the other all afternoon and into the evening.

The Parade

The event starts with a parade through the Castilion Town led by the Fox Leader and their advisors. All sorts of organisations take part and show off their decorated conveyances. The fanciest are based on a Floatship, but others use a horse and cart or are able to be carried. At the end of the parade prizes are given, followed by a feast.   The Fox Leader joins in with the main celebration in the town, but before the end will retire to the Castilion Castle and a more dignified celebration for all the clan's dignitaries.

Food during the festival

Food is available from every cafe, inn and vending house, so the crowd makes its way from one to another. Each offers their own speciality packaged into bite-sized morsels. Some people try to taste something from every possible location, but there are hundreds so only the truly brave attempt that. Most people eat from ten to twenty of them.

Music during the festival

Meanwhile in the town the drumming continues and raucous dancing lasts all night. Multiple stages throughout the town ensure that wherever you are you can dance, and everyone does. The Winter Festival is an important opportunity for drummers to gain recognition and popularity. Only drummers can perform as all other types of musicians are taken to the Conservatoire  to train their musical magic skills. As drumming does not harness the magical forces in the same way it can be performed without worrying about unforeseen consequences.
