The Collapse Period

The Conflict

Prelude

The 800 year long reign of the empire that was started by Prime, the God of Civilization himself, was coming to an end. Following two centuries of discord, corruption, and even bloodshed, the subjects of the empire were finally prepared to rise up, together, in armed conflict against the desiccated lion. The final straw came when The Ackramorian Imperial Army introduced extremely strict disarmament and control measures following the second assassination of an Ackramorian emperor in 100 years. The death of Emperor Mochtas in 12 BBA is seen as the true start of the final Collapse of the Ackramorian Empire.

Deployment

The Ackramorian Empire brought to bear the might of hundreds of legions, each numbering over 5,000 troops and the more versatile magions. Stretched supply lines, corruption, and confused loyalties saw to it that many of these legions were slain to the last, captured, surrendered, or even defected to fight for the rebellion.   The Rebellion seemed to be everywhere, units of common folk to mounted knights rose up all around the Ackramorian legions and always had a significant numbers advantage throughout the Collapse, right up until their defeat at the Battle of Ackra. Most of the Rebellion's units typically couldn't stand up to the heavy infantry of the legions in a head on fight, instead employing cavalry and hit and run tactics against the legions, while focusing their efforts on the magions and supply lines.

Battlefield

The fighting took place all across the Empire, from deep forests to sieges against Imperial fortresses to pitched battles in planes, all of Tukarsh was coated in the blood of rebels and loyalists.

Outcome

The Collapse culminated in the siege and subsequent Battle of Ackra. Up until the final moments of the Collapse, it seemed certain that the armies of the Rebellion would be victorious, but distrust, infighting, and possibly even divine intervention would ultimately swing the conflict's outcome in favor of the Ackramorian Empire. Ultimately the two sides would find themselves in a stalemate after the Ackramorian Empire reclaimed some of its lost territory.

Aftermath

The Collapse Period has left the world on the precipice of conflict as old grudges and new disputes seem certain to eventually cause further bloodshed among the sovereignties on Tukarsh. The continued existence of the Ackramorian Empire is also cause for discord as many will not see the violence of the Collapse Period as concluded until the Ackramorian Empire is entirely eradicated.   The Collapse Period enabled Empress Evanlyn Vita to route out corruption and old bureaucracy as those elements fled or betrayed the Empire during the Rebellion. While the Ackramorian Empire exists in the current day, it has largely been remade to Evanlyn Vita's liking.

Historical Significance

The Collapse Period marked the explosive release of tension that had been building in the Ackramorian Empire over the course of two centuries, starting with the Mad Emperor and the Age of Red and Black. Corruption and bureaucratic bloat had expanded exponentially in the 200 years leading up to the Collapse, the Empire was no longer growing, and the policies of autonomous cooperation that governed Ackramorian Imperial policy since its inception was slowly being eroded in favor of greater control and higher taxes.   The world as it is today was shaped by the events of the Collapse Period, so much so that the modern Ackramorian calendar has been remade with the Collapse's climax as its zero year. Some say that the Collapse never ended and that the Ackramorian Empire's true day of reckoning has yet to arrive.

In Literature

Multiple religious texts have been penned by scholars and clergy aligned with Prime, the God of Civilization, celebrating Evanlyn Vita as the savior of Prime's Empire. She is often referred to as "The Savior" specifically, and that title has stuck with her ever since, thanks to a populace that regards her as a nearly divine figure.

Technological Advancement

Ancient weapons of mass death were recovered by the armies of the Rebellion and were intended to be used against the imperial capital. These weapons are said to have all been destroyed during the Battle of Ackra, although some believe that at least a few of the weapons were captured by Evanlyn Vita and her forces. These devastating weapons have not been seen since.
