Calling of the Fey - Myth

Old Myth: Dreaming of magical encounters while pregnant will call the fey to your unborn child.
A myth that has been around for years, this old wives' tale came from an unknown original source and has been around for an indefinite amount of time. This is likely because it ties to a subject that has long assailed mortals - fey linking. This is a phenomenon where a fey spirit ties itself to the soul of a mortal, giving that mortal special abilities and/or attributes. Nobody knows why this happens, or how the fey decides which unborn child to attach to. It is, however, something most people are afraid of, as there is no telling whether the "gift" of the fey will be beneficial or harmful, and especially as there is no known way to rid a person of their linked fey.   Thus, there have been countless attempts to explain the reasons behind the fey linking, and that includes why it happens in the first place. At some point, the rumor began to spread that a pregnant woman dreaming of using or interacting with magic would call a fey to them, who would then link themselves to the fetus. It was like a horn, they said, calling out to the fey realm in a note only the fey could hear, who took it as an invitation.   As one might imagine, this caused many wards and works to spawn across Qey throughout the years. Villages, churches, and parents felt the need to make sure the child-bearing women of their town were cleansed of magical thoughts during their gestational period, so they would not begin to dream of magic usage at night. Rituals were created in an attempt to purify memories, oral concoctions whipped up for pregnant women to drink or eat each night before bed, and often priests were asked to lay hands on the woman each week to ask Hakrantu, the Plurimi of Dreams, to keep them safe.   Nowadays, this has mostly fallen into the dismissive category of old wives tales and is looked upon as the superstition of a lower intellect, but it is still a belief that persists in some measure across many different countries in one variant or another.
