Mercurium

Properties

Material Characteristics

It is a silvery liquid metal, very similar visually to mercury.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Mercurium is a liquid metal that produces a steady magical charge and slowly brakes down most organic material. Any material that is broken down in it naturally incorporates, adding to the mass of the pool without diluting it. Some byproducts of matirial being broken down evaporates so only some mass is left in the mercurium.   Mercurium is greatly affected by the moons and expands and contracts with the tide. On high tides when the moons are aligned it bubbles and spits up droplets that hang suspended for hours until the tide is over. On low tides when the moons are farthest from one another it compresses into itself shrinking in size and turning the consistency of cool honey. Additionally while it is this thick it is more potent, any creature that touches it will begin to dissolve and may get stuck.

Life & Expiration

It it a very stable material, cold has not effect on its state of matter and it only begins to evaporate at temperatures so high its actual number is undocumented due to the measuring apparatus melting. Substantially lower heats can be used to separate it from homogenized organic material and is used before storing so that t is completely pure and uncontaminated.

History & Usage

Refinement

Natural Mercurium is almost never pure due to its nature of assimilating surrounding organic material into itself. As such it is not sutible for delicate work as you can never know what is in there with the murcurium. I raised to a heat that would melt iron into liquid organic matirial turns into a sludge and can be reliably seperated from the pure product.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

The organic sludge left from the refining process is often used to fertilize orchereds as it is rich in nutriance and has no chance of directly touching any fruit until it has decomposed into the earth.

Hazards

Mercurium is normally only mildly abrasive in short periods. However a prolonged exposure can lead to injury or death as it slowly homogenizes you into itself. Even if only a finger is touching for a extended amount of time it is a risk, as mercurium will spread up organic material as it dissolves it.
