Hermes
First planet from the sun, Herme's sun-baked surface is the one thing keeping the vast majority of the planet's colonists alive.
Within the crust, cities are carved out. Rough-hewn, like the people that live there. Under shells of stone, crews work at all hours of the day and night, pulling metal ore out from the rock, before sending it to the factories with smokestacks sticking through to the surface, where it's processed, refined, and then shipped out.
While much of the planet is orned by corporations and terrestrial governments, there is still enough free territory for the occasional prospector to try and strike it rich, and even more occasionally succeed in doing so. Of course, most succumb to big business, claim jumpers, the heat, or the Deep Ones at one point or another. Or they simply drink themselves to death, more than likely.
