The Weltenburgh Alliance

No one is certain who the Weltenburghs were and where they came from prior to the Fey Fall. They have always claimed to have been a respectable family, a barony, who had made their fortunes using trade. However, during the fey fall, many documents were lost, including these.   What is known, is that they made a name for themselves after the fey fall. They joined a group of survivors, and helped to build up the first wall keeping the wild lands out.   By the time they had founded their company, the Weltenburgh Alliance, and applied for the job of clearing part of the wild lands to expand territory, they were a logical choice.   However, the Weltenburgh Alliance is most known for their unusual approach to clearing the wild lands - mostly by polluting the soil and killing everything in their wake.   The Weltenburgh Alliance itself has always claimed it to be a minor oversight, a defective setting to one of their machines in combination with an oil tank which had been filled to the brim. In an official statement, they have declared that this was naturally not their intention, nor could they have predicted or anticipated this scenario beforehand. In their words, this was a regrettable incident, but they could not take responsibility for it. After all, they had only relied on the mechanic at the equipment's last check-up.   Meanwhile, the stretch of land recovered was unusable, and, even worse, dangerous to both animals and humanoids. The mechanic company took the fall and was ruined in a matter of days.   Almost two decades later, a new employee of The Weltenburgh Alliance anonymously published internal documents from the company in the newspapers. From these documents, it was apparent that the Weltenburgh Alliance was well aware of the risk that they posed to the environment.   While it was still true that the mechanic had approved the equipment for usage, there were many inaccuracies in the Alliance's statement of how they were going to use it. One of those details is that they wrote in the application that this equipment was for light use, at most an hour at a time. From their own records, it was shown that the Alliance used the machinery for sometimes sixteen to twenty hours at a time, causing remarkably more strain on the components.   Even worse, when some of the workers complained of the machinery getting hot, they were ignored. From a few of the internal memo's it becomes abundantly clear that the Weltenburgh Alliance was aware of the risks to their workers and the environment, but they have cut the corners to lower their costs and increase profit.   Because of that, Concordia is looking to be scarred for at least a few centuries to come.
