Origin of the Star Fae Grove Myth in Ereza | World Anvil

Origin of the Star Fae Grove

Star Beings were created by The Soul Smith even before the gods; made from pure energy, the same energy that is now known as Star Magic, their souls shine as bright as the actual stars they call neighbor. While sentient, Star Beings are not driven by strong personality like the gods. Although some Star Beings have been known to channel their power into transformation, most are content to drift among the cosmos observing.   Perhaps it was a feeling of inferiority brought on by the knowledge of coming second that spurred the god Gen into violating a Star Being, or perhaps it was curiosity coupled with an overinflated sense of self and a lack of regard for other forms of life.
Whatever the reason, Old Fire Blood accosted a Star Being and, the closest one could come to describing Gen's actions, then refracted her being, her light, into many bits of her former self. The pieces of her fell to Ereza and landed in a glade in the northern Pelesian forest; the section of forest became known as the Star Fae Grove.   Every place in the glade where a fragment of star landed, it planted itself like a seed in the soil. In each place, a cairn of stone rose up out of the ground; at its base a clear stem grew up and wound around the stone culminating in a single bud. When the bud blossomed, it was not just a flower, but a new being as well, a Star Fae. Each of the Fae glows with a different shade of the color spectrum, and so does her flower. When the Fae’s body wears out, she dies but is born again from another bud.   Visiting the Grove is difficult now due to protections placed by the Pelesian Government, but if you can get that far, the Glade within can be easily located in the evening by following the rainbow glow.

Controversy

The Clergy of Gen spent a long time disavowing this myth as it flies in the face of the perception they teach of their god. However, when the Star Fae Rosililly used her inherent Star Magic to become human, and consequently went on to mother the Pelesian people, it became much more difficult to ignore this page in Green Skin's past. Rosililly herself had shared that it was the feeling of revulsion for her own skin, the skin that Gen forced her into, that drove her desire for transformation.   It is due to this "myth" that temples to Gen are not welcome within Pelee.
