Eilan

Eilan is an island in the , close the Vailian coast containing the . While it is rather large, it is almost entirely inhospitable, and the settlement that once existed on it long fell into ruin.

Geographic Location

Eilan is the only larger island in the inland sea, giving it great strategical value, both as a place to dock and restock ships, as well as to directly launch an invasion from. The island itself has no natural water sources other than the sea, and to make matters worse, something in times long past seems to have poisoned the groundwater, making water from wells poisonous unless boiled first. The same poison also afflicts the very land itself, resulting in crops wilting away with only a minuscule amount of them actually bearing fruit.
The nearest coastline is covered in thick swamp, making resupply even harder, along with long reinforcement times in case of an actual military invasion.

History

There is a ruined settlement on the island that was established during the times of the Ramerian Empire by a rich Vailian merchant dynasty hoping to turn it into a centre of trade for the region. However, by the time the Xingqin War kicked off, the economic recession had already made it extremely hard to sustain, and as all able-bodied men were required for the front-line, the town was simply abandoned, many houses still in relatively good condition, even more than a decade later.
Now, Grand Vailia seems to have taken a renewed interest in it since their trade in the inland sea was completely halted by the Casterian Navy, and this outpost could be an important base for them to project their power from.
